When the Atkins decided to expand their services, they purchased a building in Scanlon and installed two dedicated cremation retorts — one for humans and one for animals — ensuring that pet cremations are always performed in a chamber used exclusively for pets. The facility opened in 2018 and quickly drew families from across northern Minnesota and neighboring Wisconsin who were seeking a local, trusted provider.

One of the defining features of Fur-Ever Loved is their on-site crematory. Because all cremations take place at their own facility under the direct supervision of their staff, your pet's remains are never transferred to a third party or sent to an unknown location for cremation. The Atkins have also designed the space with grieving families in mind — a dedicated living room area allows owners to sit with their pet, say a proper goodbye, and take whatever time they need before care begins. Fur-Ever Loved also works directly with local veterinary clinics, including Cloquet Animal Hospital, for prompt pickup when a pet passes at a clinic.

What to Expect

Fur-Ever Loved operates Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Home pickup is available within 20 miles at a flat fee, with extended-distance service available for families farther away. After-hours cremations can be arranged for an additional fee. The facility's goal is to complete cremations as quickly as possible — families have come from as far as Grand Rapids to wait at the facility while their pet's cremation is performed. Private cremation starts at $225 for pets up to 125 pounds, with group cremation available at a lower price point for families who do not need remains returned.
