Gentle Pet Passages San Antonio - In Home Pet Euthanasia

About Gentle Pet Passages San Antonio
Gentle Pet Passages San Antonio is a locally owned mobile pet euthanasia practice serving the San Antonio area and surrounding communities in the Alamo Ranch region and beyond. The practice was founded by Dr. Jerrod Killian, a retired U.S. Army Veterinarian whose own experience losing his beloved Golden Retriever Jesse inspired him to dedicate his veterinary career to helping other families through their final farewell. Dr. Killian named the practice "Passages" because he believes the road does not end for our pets — that love finds a way — and he carries that philosophy into every appointment he makes.
One of the distinguishing features of Gentle Pet Passages is its virtual quality-of-life assessment service, which allows families to consult with Dr. Killian through Zoom or by phone before making the decision about euthanasia. During these sessions, he reviews veterinary records, observes the pet, and discusses key quality-of-life indicators including appetite, mobility, comfort, sleep, and happiness. This service is offered in accordance with Texas law as guidance rather than diagnosis, and it gives families the support and information they need to feel confident in their decision — without pressure or judgment.

What to Expect
When Dr. Killian arrives for an in-home appointment, he begins with pre-euthanasia sedation — a small under-the-skin injection accompanied by optional oral medications for dogs with anxiety, allowing the pet to gradually relax over about 10 minutes while families offer treats and spend loving time together. Once fully calm, a stronger sedation is administered, followed by the euthanasia injection approximately 15 minutes later. For dogs with significant anxiety, Dr. Killian applies a numbing cream to the injection site to minimize any discomfort. Optional clay paw print keepsakes are available, and following the appointment, Dr. Killian provides transport to Fond Memories Pet Cemetery and Crematorium for aftercare arrangements. Families can visit the Fond Memories website directly to explore their full range of cremation and memorial options.
