About Heartland Pet Aquamation

Heartland Pet Aquamation is a Kansas City, Missouri company dedicated to offering water-based pet cremation — a process known as aquamation or alkaline hydrolysis — to pet owners and veterinary clinics in the region. Founded by Jarrod Hammond, who launched the business after researching aquamation during a period of career transition, Heartland Pet Aquamation became the first and, for a time, the only dedicated pet aquamation provider in the Kansas City area. The company is located in the West Bottoms neighborhood at 1700 W 9th Street, KC 64101, and is entirely separate from Heartland Pet Cremation in St. Louis, which offers traditional flame-based cremation under a different owner.

Aquamation uses water, temperature, and alkalinity to accelerate the natural breakdown of organic tissue over approximately 20 hours — compared to the one to two hours typical of flame cremation. The result is a sterile fluid that is safely discharged, and refined white-colored mineral ash, often described as cleaner and more complete than traditional cremated remains. Heartland Pet Aquamation describes the process as chosen by Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu and used by institutions like the Mayo Clinic, and it carries zero emissions and roughly one-tenth the carbon footprint of fire-based cremation.

Services Offered

Heartland Pet Aquamation provides the following services to families in the Kansas City, Missouri area:

  • Aquamation (alkaline hydrolysis) — water-based, zero-emissions alternative to flame cremation
  • Individual aquamation — your pet processed separately, with mineral ash returned to your family
  • Concierge care with Angelpaw tracking — secure tracking from intake through hand-delivery of remains
  • Heirloom Commission pieces and urns — memorial keepsakes crafted from aquamation remains
  • Veterinary clinic partnerships — aquamation services coordinated through participating KC-area vet offices

What to Expect

Families can initiate arrangements directly through Heartland Pet Aquamation's online portal (powered by Angelpaw) or by calling (816) 710-0123. From the moment your pet enters their care, a secure tracking number allows families to follow the process through each milestone until remains are hand-delivered to your door. The resulting ash is white-colored and finely refined — suitable for any standard urn or for use in Heirloom Commission memorial pieces. For families drawn to a more environmentally gentle farewell, Heartland Pet Aquamation offers a meaningful alternative to traditional pet cremation in the Kansas City region.
