What to Expect

When the Journey's End veterinarian arrives at your home, the appointment typically lasts about 15 to 20 minutes. When you are ready, an injection is given into the muscle to provide deep sedation—this takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes to take effect. Once your pet is fully relaxed and comfortable, a final intravenous injection is administered, which works quickly and peacefully. The veterinarian works around you and your family throughout the process so you can remain close to your pet as they pass. Afterward, your pet will be carefully transported for cremation, and the crematorium will contact you when you are able to pick up the remains—typically within a couple of days.
