Pet Love Hospice is an in-home pet euthanasia and veterinary hospice service based in Dubuque, Iowa, operating under PetMed Animal Health Center. The practice was founded in 2021 when Dr. Mackenzie Hellert purchased PetMed of Key West Veterinary Clinic and launched Pet Love Hospice to extend compassionate end-of-life care to the Dubuque community. Dr. Hellert and her associate, Dr. Tigges, believe that in-home euthanasia is often the most peaceful passing a pet can have — in familiar surroundings, with the people who love them most.
Pet Love Hospice has been serving families in Dubuque since 2022, with a service area that extends to Galena, Illinois; Bellevue, Iowa; Platteville, Wisconsin; and communities in between. The practice operates by appointment, Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. For families who are unsure whether it is the right time to say goodbye, the doctors offer quality-of-life hospice consultations — including telehospice appointments — to help families navigate pain control, comfort options, and next steps. For aftercare, Pet Love Hospice partners with S&S Cremation of Centralia, Iowa to offer cremation, paw prints, urns, and personalized name plates.

What to Expect
